The Kansas State School for the Blind sponsored a class based on the QPVI process for TVIs in training, in partnership with the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and Missouri State University programs, in the Fall of 2006. Anne Nielsen and Jackie Denk are the contact people involved on the KSSB campus. The first semester, which covered reading collecting data using the Master List of Students (and making a presentation to the VI Supervisor), developing a teacher schedule, reading and understanding eye exam reports, conducting and reporting the results of a Functional Vision Evaluation. The class, consisting of 7 proteges and their mentors was evaluated highly by participants as being of great practical application for beginning TVIs
Two classes, one each semester of the 2007-2008 school year will train new TVIs to conduct LMAs on students with low vision, students who are Braille readers, very young children and children with mild to severe additional disabilities.
